George Canyon has had a frenetic week. The Canadian country singer/songwriter made it into the Top 4 on The USA Network/CMT show, Nashville Star; got to duet
with Trace Adkins; and was greeted by more than 300 fans at the airport when he returned home to Pictou County in Nova Scotia.
As a final finalist on Nashville Star, George is competing for the chance to win a recording contract with Sony Music Nashville. One more contestant
will be cut next week as
episode eight will feature the finalists performing a song–be it a cover
tune or an original–they think best shows off their talents.
George’s Pictou homecoming was a huge success, as he was introduced by
Nova Scotia
Premier John Hamm, met with 100s of local school children and capped
it all with a fundraising concert for the Red Cross in New Glasgow Square,
which drew a crowd of 10,000.
At the event George received a plaque declaring April 19th, “George
Canyon Day” annually for Pictou County. As well, the Regional Development
Commission commisioned a sign “This is Canyon Country” added to the “Welcome to
Pictou County” sign on the highway. (see the pics on www.georgecanyon.com).
George’s hit single “Good Day To Ride” is currently in the BDS top 15 at
Country radio in Canada.
Editor’s note: After opening the show with the elimination of one more contestant, Nashville
Star is now down to the final three.
Each artist will be asked to perform a song, be it a cover tune or an
original, that they think best shows off their individual talents. For the last time,
viewers and fans are being asked to cast your votes – and this time, the
final results will determine the winner.
