GMA Week is in high gear as people have been arriving in Nashville all weekend to register for CCM’s biggest week. Saturday the convention center was hustling as GMA staff and volunteers began to set up their registration areas, expo floor and more. Over the weekend CCM types were already milling around, meeting old friends and making new ones. Rick Cua, Chris Houser, were among the familiar faces of industry leaders hanging out in the registration area on Saturday.
Sunday saw crowds registering for the week of seminars, showcases, meals and concerts that typify GMA Week. The Renaissance hotel lobby becomes a hub of activity once the seminars start. Tonight it was relatively quiet as most folks were over at the Ryman, but John Styll, President of GMA, passed through and stopped to talk to Karen Lafferty, Director of Musicians for Music.
One of the most memorable events of the week is always the Sunday Night Worship at the Ryman Auditorium which gets the week rolling in an appropriate fashion. Once again the worship concert was led by Michael W. Smith. Michael started things a little differently this year as he got Joe Katina and Don Moen to join him in praying for the wife of Jim Chaffee who is fighting cancer.
Then Michael (wearing a lime green shirt that perfectly matched the lime green stage lighting), who had promised us an experience that would be like the “rapture,” launched into a praise and worship celebration with the help of many talented friends.
