In the midst of our Lord’s proclamation of his desire for our lives, he said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be completely satisfied.”
There is an old story of a man who was in a terrible hurry because his flight had made him late to another town. Rushing out of the terminal, he jumped into the first cab and shouted out the command, “Drive like mad. I’m in a hurry!”
The cabbie dutifully sped off and headed toward the city. After a few moments, the businessman pulled himself out of his planner and noticed that they were headed in the wrong direction. Leaning forward he asked, “Where do you think you are going?” The driver responded, “Beats me. All I was told was to drive like mad!”
The issue of hungering and thirsting determines the outcome of life. You will satisfy that which grips your desires. If you allow filth to enter your wants you will become filthy. If possessions dominate your heart you will become possessive. If your appetite centers in food you will be super-sized. Jesus invites you to seek the nature of godliness. His promise is that if you hunger and thirst for it, you will be filled.
