A mother duck, with her large brood of ducklings, was observed paddling gently down the stream. Mother was in front, leading the way slowly, and her obedient and possibly timid family, swam behind her.
But, there seems to be one in every family!
One duckling wanted to do its own thing, and was seen exploring every nook and cranny along the way. He seemed oblivious of the fact that his family, his security, had indeed gone out of sight.
The observer, reluctant not to get up and shoo the wayward duckling to safety, suddenly became aware of the father duck, sitting quietly on the bank. He was just watching, letting the little one learn more of his surroundings. Baby was probably unaware that a safe haven with Dad was nearby.
When the time was right, his father firmly guided him back to the safety of the family. His father knew when that time of ‘doing one’s own thing’, was no longer wise or safe, but he had been there watching all the same.
Our Father in heaven sees all that we do and He watches over us. We’re told, “The Lord watches over all who love Him.” Ps 145:20NIV
Isn’t that a comfort?
The Lord does a wonderful thing for His children. He allows them to be themselves, unique…special…one-of-a-kind, and He delights in them!
