According to unconfirmed reports, Andy Griffith is reportedly in the L.A. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after falling in his home and breaking his hip. One report stated Griffith had been scheduled for hip replacement surgery prior to his fall.
A source close to Griffith confirmed the actor had taken a fall. When Griffith’s friend tried to reach Griffith by phone at his North Carolina home, he was told the actor was in California.
www.contactmusic.com reports “The 80-year-old actor had hip surgery on 5 September (06) and has been in the hospital in Los Angeles ever since, where he’s being monitored for heart problems, according to US reports that have not been confirmed by his publicist.”
The website goes on to claim that Griffith, who underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery in 2000, is a high-risk patient due to heart problems.
The annual Mayberry Days festival which honors Griffith, his hometown, and the TV show which bears his name is this week in Mt. Airy, NC. More details to come as we learn them.
