True Worship

Did you know that our Father God is seeking our worship? In John 4: 23 – 24, Jesus says, “But the hour is the coming and now is when the true worshippers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. (v. 24) God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and truth.” “ In Spirit,” that is – the Holy Spirit – by means of the Holy Spirit, and “truth” – by means of the Holy scriptures. We find throughout Scripture that worship is man’s response to God expressed in sacrifice and devotion.
After man fell in the Garden of Eden, Cain and Abel – Adam and Eve’s first sons – presented their offerings to the Lord (Genesis 4.) Why was Cain’s offering rejected and Abel’s received? Cain was a tiller of the soil. His offering was the “fruit of the ground” Abel was a keeper of sheep. His offering was a blood sacrifice. Cain and Abel learned that God clothed (covered) their parents in animal skins (where the innocent dies for the guilty) after they had sinned. We can conclude that God initiated the first blood sacrifice in order to redeem fallen man.
As we read in the New Covenant book of Hebrews chapter 12: “ We have been redeemed by the blood of the New Covenant which speaks of better things than that of Abel.” The blood of Christ speaks of better things than that of Abel because through His shed blood our sins are not only covered but they have been remitted, forgiven and washed away reconciling us to the Father and giving us access, with confidence, to God’s throne. It’s because of the blood of Christ we are able to draw near to God by His Holy Spirit.
Before we can worship God we must be reconciled to Him. We must approach Him and worship Him according to His terms; not as Cain, who worshiped God on His own terms – but like Abel who, in true worship, worshiped God on God’s terms – for the Father seeks such to worship Him. We see such examples throughout the Bible.
