Essential Records’ True Vibe closes out
2001 as contemporary Christian music’s most successful new artist. Selling
more than 175,000 records to date, True Vibe was the highest charting new
artist on the year-end SoundScan® sales charts. In addition to prospering
at retail, the vocal group garnered two No. 1 radio singles and performed
for an estimated audience of more than two million, including tours with
Destiny’s Child and Aaron Carter.
Before the release of its self-titled debut in May 2001, True Vibe had
appeared on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” performed the national
anthem on “ABC’s Monday Night Football” and completed a successful tour with
GRAMMY award-winning Destiny’s Child. This early momentum paved the way for
other high-profile ventures, and True Vibe soon added tours with Jive
Records recording artist Aaron Carter, Radio Disney and CoverGirl to its
growing list of accomplishments. When not touring, the foursome remained
busy with special events and summer festivals ranging from EO Youth Day in
Amsterdam to Kingdom Bound, Atlantafest and Rock the Universe. They were a
featured artist at the CBA International convention this summer in Atlanta
and performed for more than 5,000 youth leaders at Youth Specialties
conventions in Tampa and Sacramento this fall.
It wasn’t long before the pop quartet forayed into the world of film,
turning up on two major motion picture soundtracks. True Vibe joined an
all-star cast for the recording of the title cut to the Miramax motion
picture, “On the Line” with *NSYNC’s Lance Bass and Joey Fatone, as well as
Christian Burns from BBMak and Mandy Moore. True Vibe received extensive
coverage on MTV’s “Making the Video” for the song and attended a
star-studded New York premiere of the movie in October, where they were
interviewed by “Access Hollywood” and “E! Entertainment News.” Most
recently, they recorded “I Can Count on You” for the soundtrack to the
Paramount Pictures/Nickelodeon Movies animated feature, “Jimmy Neutron: Boy
Genius.”
True Vibe has flourished at print and radio as well, gracing the pages of
publications including Entertainment Weekly, CCM Magazine, Release Magazine,
Bop Magazine, J-14, Tiger Beat and Teen Beat. Their debut radio single,
“Now and Forever,” claimed the No. 1 spot on the CHR chart (R&R, The CCM
Update) and “Sweet Jesus” soon followed at INSPO (The CCM Update).
“I am extremely pleased with how well True Vibe has been received by
industry and fans alike,” commented Essential Records president Robert
Beeson. “If 2001’s achievements are any indication of what the future holds
for True Vibe, then we are looking forward to the group’s continued
success.”
In keeping with precedent, True Vibe ended a phenomenal year by opening for
J Records artist O-Town at a recent concert in Nashville. The packed event,
held at 328 Performance Hall, was sponsored by 102.5 FM and also featured
musical guest Vitamin C. O-Town entered the music scene more than a year
ago on ABC’s reality television show “Making the Band.”
