12/29/00 CBD Buys Musicforce.com
Gaylord Entertainment Co. sold
the popular Christian-music e-commerce site to Christian Book Distributors for
an undisclosed sum. Gaylord said negotiations to sell its Lightsource.com site
continues. Both sites were put on the block when Gaylord recently restructured,
announcing it would either close or sell its Internet division by Dec. 31 and
lay off 85 people.

12/09/00 Freedom, Debuts at #1
Freedom, the first instrumental album from Grammy
Award and Dove Award-winning Reunion recording artist Michael W. Smith,
garnered the highest first-week sales for a recording by a Christian
artist this year, following its November 21 release. The album, which
debuted at #1 on SoundScan’s Top Christian Albums chart for the week
ending November 26, also debuted at #1 on SoundScan’s Top Christian
Instrumental Albums chart. Freedom marks the highest debut for an
instrumental album in the history of SoundScanÃs Top Christian Albums
chart.
11/30/00Sam’s Place Cancelled
“Sam’s Place,” hosted by Gary Chapman and held in Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium has been canceled after nearly 7 years.
In an interview with the Nashville Tennessean Chapman said that the end came with a leadership change at Gaylord Entertainment, which owns the
Ryman. The last “Sam’s Place” was this past Sunday.

11/20/00Word Entertainment Merges Myrrh and Word
Due to management upheavals and staff cuts, Word Entertainment is merging the Myrrh and Word lables’ artists rosters and
operations. The combined label will carry the
Word name. All current Word and Myrrh artists will continue, but seven staff positions have been cut.
11/14/00Spring Hill Music Group signs Oak Ridge Boys
Spring Hill Music Group has signed the legendary Oak
Ridge Boys to an exclusive recording contract. The yet-to-be titled album
will be released in early Spring and will be the first purely Southern
Gospel album released to retail from the group in twenty-five years.
The Oak Ridge Boys are rooted deep in Gospel music and on October 30 were
inducted into the Gospel Music Association’s Hall of Fame.
