Essential Releases Second

Selling more than 300,000 copies to
date and garnering a Dove Award for Special Event Album of the Year, City On
A Hill – Songs of Worship and Praise has more than paved the way for the
next offering from the City On A Hill worship community. Essential Records
announces the arrival of City On A Hill – Sing Alleluia, available in stores
February 19th.
In keeping with the original concept, City On A Hill – Sing Alleluia
showcases another collaboration of artists including return contributors
Jars of Clay, Third Day, Caedmon’s Call, FFH, and The Choir as well as
newcomers Jennifer Knapp, Nichole Nordeman, Bebo Norman, Fernando Ortega,
and Phil Keaggy among others. Also returning to the project is producer
Steve Hindalong, who earned a Producer of the Year Dove Award nomination in
2001 for his work on the initial album.
“I’m so grateful to Essential Records for giving me the opportunity to do it
again,” said Hindalong. “The process was, to say the least, challenging, yet
thoroughly satisfying. I’ve never been more pleased with a project. Many
amazing artists ‘painted on the common canvas.’ The result — an album we
share and offer collectively — is beautiful beyond what I’d imagined.”
Another artist who left her mark on the ‘common canvas’ is visual artist and
music veteran Kim Thomas (Say So). Once again, Thomas was commissioned to
design an original painting for the album.
Similar to City On A Hill – Songs of Worship and Praise, the latest release
comprises a variety of original worship tunes from a community of artists.
Pairings on this record include Fernando Ortega with Mac Powell on the
power-ballad “Our Great God” and Caedmon’s Call with Phil Keaggy on
“Communion.” Mac Powell also joins Jennifer Knapp on the standout track,
title cut, and first radio single “Sing Alleluia.” In addition to new
songs, City On A Hill – Sing Alleluia features a few familiar melodies like
the traditional church hymn “All Creatures of Our God And King,” which ended
the first album and opens as well as closes the new song list.
City On A Hill – Songs of Worship and Praise has enjoyed overwhelming
critical, consumer, and radio success since its debut more than a year ago.
The project held the No. 1 position on the SoundScan Top Praise and Worship
chart for multiple weeks, while its debut radio single, “God of Wonders,”
held the No. 1 position on the Adult Contemporary radio chart for four
consecutive weeks. The song also broke the Top 10 on the Christian Hits
(CHR) chart and was a Top 5 hit on the Inspirational chart, making it the
first song in Essential Records history to simultaneously retain a slot on
three major radio formats.
