Bluefield College will bring another premier musical performance to the
community, Sunday, April 29. For the first time ever, BC’s Masterworks
Chorale – a 30-member choir combined with a 20-member orchestra — will
present the inspiring Christian musical “God With Us.”
Under the direction of Dr. Joshua Wong, chair of the BC Department of
Music, Masterworks Chorale is a unique music ensemble that combines BC
students, faculty and staff with musicians and singers from the community.
After weeks of rehearsal and preparation, the group is set to culminate its
efforts with the performance of “God With Us.” The program, Dr. Wong said,
should provide an opportunity for Christians in the area to come together as
one body to worship the Lord.
“This is a very powerful and inspiring musical, which focuses on praise
and worship toward God for His promises, provisions and faithfulness to us,”
Dr. Wong said. “Our prayer is that we are able to share the gospel of Christ
and His saving love, hope and encouragement with the Bluefield community.”
The program, composed by Don Moen, Jack Hayford and Tom Fettke, will
include performances from the choir, a praise team, soloists, a combination
band and the symphony orchestra. It will include the musical selections
“Crown Him King of Kings,” “What a Mighty God we Serve,” “Great is Thy
Faithfulness,” “God Will Make a Way,” “Come Celebrate Jesus” and “Blessed be
the Name of the Lord.” In addition, members of the Masterworks Chorale will
also offer testimonies and narration to support the music.
Soloists for the performance will include, from BC, Heather Shockley,
Chris Sheppard, Sandy MacMillan, Bob Mahood and Dr. Bob Randall, and from
the community, Bob Stoddard, Julie Hurley, Josh Stegall and Susan Allen.
Dozens of other area residents are members of the choir, the band or the
orchestra.
Dr. Wong added that he likes to call the production his “CCCC
performance.” The music, he said, combines the “classical and the
contemporary,” while the ensemble brings together the “college and the
community.”
“This is a major production, involving so many different people,” Dr.
Wong said. “We’re bringing together the best musicians and voices from area
colleges, schools and churches to perform a very powerful musical
performance.”
The Masterworks Chorale1s presentation of “God With Us” will begin at
7:30 p.m. on April 29 in Harman Chapel. The event is open and free to the
public. For more information, please call the BC Department of Music at
