Watch and Wait

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I put my hope.
My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. Psalm 130: 5-6
Psalm 130 is an encouragement for us as followers of Jesus to continue to wait on Him.
Even as the deepest parts of our souls cry out, God will always make a way. Never give up. Always hope and trust in the Lord.
If I think about the word “wait”, it has a couple of different meanings.
Wait can tell us to remain inactive or still until something expected happens. Let us be quiet before the Lord, hold tight, until His way is made clear. Trust and know that He is working on our behalf.
Wait also means to serve, like a waiter. So as we wait on the Lord, serve him with all your heart, soul, and mind.
A watchman is someone who stands guard most generally at night. In that darkness the unknown surrounds him. He cannot see with the natural eye what may be lurking the shadows. Fear may try to overtake him, but he will have a weapon to defend himself. His ear has become keen. For only in the silence can he truly perceive what is going on around him. The watchmen waits patiently for the light of day. He is confident that morning will come, as it has for all eternity, and the light of the sun will guide his way.
Our walk with Christ is similar to the watchman. We, like the watchman, experience the night in our lives, which at times becomes very dark and confusing. We cannot determine what is around the next corner, and fear attempts to rear its ugly head. In our carnal state it is difficult to figure it all out, and we wish the light of day would shine on the most difficult hurdles we face. But praise the Lord; we also have our weapon of defense which is His word. Holding it close to our heart it protects, instructs, and is our hope and eternal promise. As believers, let us strive to develop a keen ear, which comes from spending time with Him, and learn to hear that still, small voice amidst all the noise and confusion. Together, we can be 100% sure that the morning will come for us, as it has for all eternity. It is the light of God’s son, JESUS, our bright morning star!
