George Washington Carver once said, “I love to think of Nature as an unlimited broadcasting station through which God speaks to us
every hour, if only we will tune in.”
When my daughter was six years old, I sent her out to the garden to look at the Sweet William flowers and see how many different
designs she could find among those flowers. I thought she would probably bring me about seven or eight, but she came in with a bowl
full. I glanced at them, picked out all the pink ones, told her they were all the same, and counted them as one. A very indignant child
held the flowers up close to my face , and pointed to the subtle differences in designs. She had found seventeen variations, which I
found amazing. But it emphasised to me, that my God was one who delighted in detail and differences. Somehow, I felt the Lord’s
sense of humour and fun, when examining these masterpieces.
If you want to capture a fresh sense of wonder and awe of God, then go and look at the flowers. Do not look from a distance…look
closely! Pick the flower, and observe the intricate design and pattern. Look at another and see how different it is.
“God looked over all that He had made, and it was excellent in every way.” Gen.1:31
Jesus knows that from time to time we must come apart from the stresses of daily living and rest awhile, or else we may just plain come
apart. Among other things, He can refresh us, and quiet our spirit with the beauty of nature. All we need to do is look hard, and for
detail.
“His glory fills the heavens, and the earth is full of His praise.” Hab.3:3
