When I look at my daughter, I’m very glad there are libraries!
Why? Because, even from a young age, once a book had been read, that was it – next one please. It seemed almost a waste
to buy a book. When I asked her why she never read them again, she told me she already knew what was in it, so why read it
again?
My son, on the other hand, wore his favourite books out through reading them over and over again. They were like comfortable
friends that he wanted around all the time.
There is one book that could meet the reading needs of all, and that is the Bible. “Search the Book of the Lord and see all that
He will do,” says Isaiah 34:16.
There is a warning though, that comes with the reading of this Book, and it?s this:
This book is habit forming!
Regular use causes
loss of anxiety,
decreased appetite for lying, cheating, stealing, hating.
Symptoms include
increased sensations of love, peace, joy, compassion.
Martin Luther tells us this, about how he studied the Bible. “I study my Bible as I gather apples. First, I shake the whole tree
that the ripest might fall. Then I shake each limb, and when I have shaken each limb, I shake each branch and every twig.
Then I look under every leaf.”
Few books can stand three readings, but the Word of God is solid. It will stand many readings, and the person who has gone
over it the most frequently and the most carefully, will surely find new wonders there.
