For the second time, Ardent Records’ top rock band Skillet has been honored with an Inspirational Life Awards nomination from the Inspiration Network (INSP), a viewer’s choice awards program that garners votes from fans via the INSP website. Skillet has been nominated in the category of Inspirational Rock/Alternative Album of the Year for its project Invincible. Skillet previously won an INSP award for “Best Modern Rock Album” for Hey You, I love Your Soul in 1998.
The Inspirational Life Awards program was launched in 1997 to recognize outstanding Christian performers, singers, musicians, writers and Christian products chosen as winners by INSP Network viewers. It is the only “people’s choice” awards program for Christian products in which winners are chosen solely by the number of votes received in each category through a ballot on the INSP website: http://www.insp.com. Write in votes will also be accepted. Votes for this year’s awards will be received through August 2001, at which time all the votes will be tabulated and winners will be announced in September through a series of televised artist clips airing on INSP. Fans may vote as many times as they like, and as an incentive for voting, INSP will be giving away prizes on its website throughout the duration of the contest.
In addition to the Inspirational Life Awards nomination, momentum for Skillet’s August 28 release of its fourth studio album, Alien Youth, continues to grow. The debut single and title track from the recording captured Most Adds honors in its very first week at Rock radio (The CCM Update). The song, with its uncompromising lyric, “Worldwide Jesus domination, love conquers all/ Rise like a chosen generation, we’re taking over the world” sums up the band’s mission and the theme for its new project.
Alien Youth consists of a call to action for the youth generation, and the intense music and lyrics go hand in hand with a special Bible study program based on the five key attributes of living as an “Alien Youth.” With this latest release, the band packages its message in the form of aggressive and passionate music that is purposefully geared to have the huge sound of Skillet’s powerful live concert experience.
Skillet recently finished its tour with the widely publicized Festival Con Dios, also featuring top-sellers Supertones, Audio Adrenaline, and Newsboys. The band was enthusiastically received by fans night after night on the tour, which has been covered by such major media outlets as USA Today, CNN, Billboard, and Entertainment Weekly.
Following its tour with Festival Con Dios, Skillet will embark this fall on its first major headline tour with special guests Pillar and Justifide. The band will visit 50 top markets with its largest production to date, playing in bigger venues to highlight its full production and dynamic live performance. Furthermore, Skillet will be featured at an impressive number of top festivals and several crusade events with Luis Palau and Harvest Crusades during the summer, which will put them in front of an additional 200,000 or more people.
Over the course of its career, Skillet has developed a consistently large and loyal fan base, becoming both a critic’s favorite as well as a youth group standard with its ministry oriented and aggressive, creative, and cutting-edge style. The band has an impressive five No. 1 rock radio singles to its credit, sales exceeding 200,000 copies, and performs more than 200 live concerts each year. In addition to its previous INSP award and its current nomination, Skillet has received multiple Gospel Music Association Dove Award nominations spanning back over five years.
