Randy Travis NABS A GRAMMY AWARD

Word Records artist and Country music legend Randy Travis nabbed a GRAMMY Award at last night’s ceremonies with his gold-selling Rise & Shine release in the “Best Southern, Country, or Bluegrass Gospel Album” category, rounding out his GRAMMY Award career-total to four.
Travis has seen a gamut of successes over the past year including the RIAA gold-certification of Rise & Shine as well as multiple accolades for the No. 1 radio hit “Three Wooden Crosses”. The hit single made music chart history by achieving No. 1 status at country radio (Billboard, R&R, and Music Row charts), an unprecedented achievement by a Christian record label on the Country charts. In addition, “Three Wooden Crosses” received “Song Of The Year” honors at the Country Music Association (CMA) Award show, as well as being named “Song Of The Year” by The Nashville Songwriters Association. Travis also garnered a 2003 Dove Award for “Country Album Of The Year” along with two Christian Country Music Awards for “Song Of The Year” and “Mainstream Artist Of The Year”.
Travis was acknowledged yet again at yesterday’s Gospel Music Association Dove Award Press Conference with five nominations for this year’s 35th Annual Dove Award ceremonies.

The five Dove Award nominations recognize both the gold-selling Rise & Shine album release as well as Travis’ latest musical offering Worship & Faith. “Three Wooden Crosses” (Rise & Shine) received a nod in both the “Song Of The Year” and “Country Recorded Song Of The Year” category. “Pray For The Fish” (Rise & Shine) will also compete in the “Country Recorded Song” category. The most current Worship & Faith album garnered a nomination for “Country Album Of The Year” and Randy himself is in the running for “Artist Of The Year”.

“This has been an astounding year for Randy,” says Mark Lusk, senior vice president of marketing and artist development at Word Records. “He’s the kind of artist that people can’t help but get behind and support as witnessed by another GRAMMY win and the Dove nominations. Randy is the real deal and I expect many more great things still to come.”
For 17 years Travis has been a dominant force in country music. The first country artist to break the multi-platinum sales barrier, he has sold more than 21 million albums and received four GRAMMYS, five Country Music Association Awards, eight Academy of Country Music Awards, and 10 American Music Awards. Travis also now heralds three Dove Awards, the Gospel Music Association’s highest honor. Travis is also an actor and has appeared in over 20 television movies for TV and theater. He has made a guest appearance on Nickelodeon’s “Blues Clues” along with narrating a handful of children’s books.
“Randy’s career has been characterized by a hard work ethic and loyalty to the fans,” says Lusk. “It’s no wonder that someone of his caliber, both as an artist and person, is receiving such recognition. No one deserves it more.”
Word Records, a division of Word Entertainment, a Warner/Curb company, heralds some of today’s top Christian music performers and songwriters including Amy Grant, Point of Grace, Jaci Velasquez, Sixpence None The Richer, Rachael Lampa, Nicole C. Mullen and Mark Schultz. The Word Label Group leads the industry with over fifty years of music making history.
