Nicole C. Mullen to Release New Project

Best-selling, six-time Dove Award-winning female vocalist and songwriter Nicole C. Mullen is set to release her first studio project in over three years, Everyday People, for Word Records on September 14.

The project was produced by Mullen along with her husband, songwriter and producer David Mullen, and also features the production talents of such mainstream luminaries as James “Big Jim” Wright (Mariah Carey, Yolanda Adams), Drew and Shannon (India Arie, Cindy Morgan, FFH) and Tommy Sims (CeCe Winans, Rachael Lampa). As one of Christian music’s most gifted songwriters, Mullen was responsible for writing or co-writing twelve of the thirteen songs on the project.
“The songs on this project were inspired by my fans,” said Mullen. “The stories that they have shared with me have left a lasting mark on my life. These songs are about real-life issues and struggles, and the hope that Jesus brings to all of our lives.”
Everyday People includes several songs written out of true-life stories including “Bye Bye Brianna,” inspired by a blind seven-year-old fan who recently passed away. “Valorie” tells a brave story of courage and hope in the face of domestic violence, and “Gon’ Be Free” recounts the plight of the Troski slaves – women and young girls enslaved by the cultural practice referred to as “Fetish Slavery” along the south eastern coast of Ghana. Each of these songs was written in response to the stories of real people who have made a lasting impact on Mullen as she has traveled the world performing, and each carries an emotional message of Christ’s compassion in the darkest places of life.
Mullen provides her own personal testament of faith in “Diety,” a song she says tells her own love story with Christ. “These eyes were not made for such beauty, Such splendor, Nor could they behold such a wonderful sight, His shafts of light, His strength, His might, Are more than my frame of dust can handle,” she sings, attributing her very life to God’s grace. …”‘Cause every move I make, Every breath I take, Is a gift if Deity.”
The first single and title track from Everyday People has been serviced to CHR and AC Christian radio with an add date of August 20. This fall, Mullen is also set to headline the “Freedom” Tour, raising money and awareness for the Troski slaves in Ghana.
“Nicole is known for her ability to connect with people from every walk of life with a perspective of hope that comes from her faith in Christ,” said Mark Lusk, sr. vice president of marketing for Word Records. “She has put together yet another collection of soon-to-be classics, with songs like ‘I Am’ that continue in the line of ‘Redeemer’ and ‘Call on Jesus,’ while continuing to grow and stretch boundaries as one of the industry’s premier female vocalists, songwriters and producers.”

With over 1 million career record sales, six Dove Awards, a Grammy Award nomination and numerous #1, multi-format radio hits, Nicole C. Mullen has become one of the most respected female vocalists and songwriters in Christian music. Her chart-topping single “Redeemer” was voted as 2001’s “Song of the Year” by the Gospel Music Association and CCM Magazine’s AC Song of the Year.
