National Sheriffs’ Association Convention Held in Nashville

For the first time in 20 years, the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office served as host agency for the 2003 National Sheriffs’ Association conference, June 22 – 25. Sheriff Daron Hall and his staff welcomed vendors, sheriffs, and other law enforcement personnel from across the country to the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center.
In addition to general sessions, several seminars took place including Making Jails Productive, Community Policing for Homeland Security, Accessing Resources on Terrorism, and Key Elements of Effective Jail Operations. Sheriff Enoch George, Maury County, Tenn., and Sheriff David Bumpus, Henry County, Tenn., were guest speakers and “America’s Sheriff” Andy Griffith was on hand to swear-in NSA’s next president, Sheriff Wayne Gay of Wilson
County, NC.
Highlights of events included:
Sunday, June 22, 8 p.m., Opening General Session, Delta Ballroom A, featuring Darryl Worley singing his hit song, “Have You Forgotten?” Scheduled
keynote speaker was United States Senator Thad Cochran, Mississippi.
Monday, June 23, 3 p.m., General Session II, Delta Ballroom A, keynote speaker United States Attorney General John Ashcroft.
Wednesday, June 25, 6 p.m., Annual Banquet, Delta Ballroom A, Andy Griffith was on hand to swear-in NSA’s next president, Sheriff Wayne Gay of Wilson
County, North Carolina.
