Multi-platinum selling and Grammy Award
winning Jars of Clay receives a third Grammy nomination to add to its long
list of accolades. The band’s critically acclaimed and RIAA certified Gold
recording, If I Left the Zoo, has received a nod from the Recording Academy
for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album. Jars of Clay first won the category
in 1997 for its platinum-selling recording, Much Afraid. The band also
received a Grammy nomination for Rock/Gospel Album of the Year in 1995 for
its RIAA certified double Platinum and self-titled debut.
“We’re thrilled to receive the nomination,” said Jars of Clay member Dan
Haseltine after receiving the news. “Were mostly excited because If I left
the Zoo was an opportunity for us to go out on a limb creatively. This
nomination is an affirmation of that process.”
Produced by Dennis Herring (Counting Crows), If I Left the Zoo incorporates
a unique blend of organic and playful music, reminiscent of the group’s
self-titled debut. CCM Magazine calls the recording “a musical triumph.”
Billboard says that the album “has a vibrant feel akin to the youthful,
fresh from-college sound that characterized the first album, with
Haseltine’s earnest lead vocals kept appropriately to the fore…The
well-written songs should appeal not only to Christian audiences…but to
the mainstream, too.”
In addition to the Grammy Award and nominations, Jars of Clay has amassed an
impressive 18 career Gospel Music Association Dove nominations and three
Nashville Music Awards, received a 1995 Billboard Music Video Award, and
earned 13 No. 1 songs in just five years. Jars of Clay is best known for
its hugely successful radio single, “Flood,” from its 1995 self-titled and
RIAA certified double-platinum debut. Jars of Clay compositions have been
featured in such major studio film release soundtracks as The Long Kiss
Goodnight, Hard Rain, Jack Frost and The Prince of Egypt. The group’s music
has further appeared in several television series, including “Providence”
(NBC) and “One Life To Live” (ABC). With the release of If I Left the Zoo,
the band recently celebrated sales of over 4 million units.
The most current offering from Jars of Clay is its recently released The
White Elephant Sessions, a special project including 15 tracks of original
studio demos, previously unreleased remixes and other rarities. This
collector’s item is available free with the purchase of If I Left The Zoo at
Christian music retailers nationwide while supplies last.
Jars Of Clay is also a spokes group for the work of Prayer for the
Persecuted Church, Inc. (PPC), which sponsors the International Day of
Prayer in the USA. PPC is an independent, not-for-profit, non-political
organization whose primary agenda is prayer. More information on PPC and

The 43rd Annual GRAMMY Awards, staged at Staples Center in Los Angeles, will
