In the Beginning

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God, and the Word was with God”
(John 1:1). No doubt you are all very familiar with this text!
Today, New Year’s Day, is a day to begin a brand new year where we might glorify
God and enjoy Him more than we ever have thus far. And how can we do this with
the help of God?
Notice “the Word was with God.” Because of Christ, we as believers of the New
Covenant can also be “with God.” We can dwell with God if we are careful to
dwell with Christ. We can serve God if we are careful to serve Christ. We can
love God if we are careful to love Christ. We can ultimately glorify and enjoy
God in ways that we have not yet known, no matter how long some of us may
already be “in Christ” by glorifying and enjoying Christ first!
Yes, this new year may present some new challenges, and some may loom on the
horizon. But if we are to meet them head on and continue on the narrow road that
would lead us to the holy mountain of God where He Himself dwells and then abide
with Him forever, then we must be with Christ now, and no doubt, that if we
abide in Christ presently and permanently, we shall also abide with God for all
eternity, because the Word has been “with God” since the beginning!
May Christ dwell “in our hearts through faith” (Ephesians 3:17), and may His
holy word dwell “richly” in our hearts as well (Colossians 3:16) all the year
long!
