Watch out, Vandy! Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter of Idaho has signed a bill into law granting religious groups on school campuses protection.
Under the new law, faith-based clubs have the right to require club leaders to agree to its religious beliefs and standards of conduct. Republican state Sen. Curt McKenzie introduced the bill to keep schools from adopting policies that single out Christian clubs.
These rights are common sense and were always a part of religious organizations, but have recently been threatened on campuses like Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.
The Idaho law passed by overwhelming majorities in the House and Senate, adding Idaho to other states including Virginia and Ohio which already have laws protecting Christian student groups. Tennessee and Kansas are considering similar legislation.
