Freddie Colloca Receives Dove Award Nomination

One Voice Records recording artist Freddie Colloca
(pronounced “ko-yo-ka”) has received a Dove Award nomination for Spanish
Language Album of the Year for Mas que un Sentimento. The nomination comes
just prior to the English-language debut of both Colloca and his label. One
Voice Records, already one of the leading Latin Christian music labels in the
Spanish-speaking world, will release Dance el Ritmo, CollocaĆ¢’s first
English-language project, on March 6, 2001 to accomplish their dual goals of
becoming the premiere Christian Latin label in the CBA marketplace while
pioneering this explosive genre.
Dance el Ritmo (Dance the Rhythm), the English-language version of the
Dove-nominated Mas que un Sentimento, will be the first of eight
English-language projects from One Voice Records through Provident Music
Distribution in 2001 as the label launches a musical assault on the
English-speaking world.
“With the tremendous explosion of Latin-flavored music and the popularity of
artists such as Ricky Martin and Christina Aguilera in the U.S., we believe
that we are in a unique position to provide an authentic alternative that
brings a message of hope and redemption,” comments Jose Garces, One Voice
Records Director of A&R.
“We are really just continuing the mission that we received from the Lord
when our family began producing Spanish-language albums almost 17 years ago –
to take the message of the Gospel to the world through music,” continues
Garces.
The fastest-growing segment of the population, America’s Hispanic community
is projected to exceed 40 million by the end of this decade, and is on track
to become the largest and youngest minority in U.S. history.
“It’s pretty obvious that sales of mainstream Latin pop music have expanded
well beyond the Hispanic market,” observes Don Noes, Senior Vice President of
Provident Music Distribution. “We believe that One Voice Records will be at
the forefront of the Christian Latin pop movement, and we are excited that
the Gospel Music Association has already recognized the excellence of the
Spanish version of Freddi’s upcoming English release.”
Mas que un Sentimento is available in the CBA market through Latin Door
Distribution and will soon be available through Spring Arbor and other
regular CBA distributors. Colloca’s Dance El Ritmo, as well as the
English-language debut from his producer, The Alvaro Lopez Project, will be
distributed in the CBA market by Provident Music Distribution. Leading
Christian retailers and radio personnel can catch Colloca, backed by Lopez,
performing at the Radio/Retail “New Artist” Luncheon during GMA Week on
Tuesday, April 24th.
