A Pillow to Dream On

And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not.
How often do we, like Jacob, say the same thing when we realize “surely the Lord is in this place, and I knew it not.” Jacob was in a
state of fleeing from his brother over fear of being killed. A death sentence was put out on Him and he knew he had to get out of
town before the sunset. That night he had nothing but a stone for a pillow and I am sure that his sleeping must have been hard.
However, he dreamed a dream that night while in this dream and he was blessed with the knowledge that God was with him. When
he awoke in the morning he was so inspired by this that He made a covenant with His God.
We too, need to realize by divine revelation that God is also in the place we find ourselves. Even in places of fear and fleeing from
evil, God is watching over us and has our travel plans in his sight. He is working in the background to fulfill his promises to us and
to bring us to a place of blessings and covenant.
It can be so hard to see the hand of the Lord at work in times of darkness and pressure. When the heat is on and all the things that
come at us seem like they are beyond our strength to endure and we end up using a rock to sleep on, God appears. One revelation of
his love can completely give us a new found strength and joy that the world cannot take from us.
It is this knowledge that changes our current situation by giving us a view of the divine that otherwise would have never been known.
This kind of knowledge is where we find peace and strength in the night times of our lives. This kind of knowledge enters into our
soul and we find comfort within it. Outward things may still war against us but now we have a buffer zone to dwell in that shields us
from fear. I believe many of us are sleeping on pillows of stone yet God wants to show us his love. All we have is the darkness to
dwell in yet God is there and we don’t see it.
We dwell in darkness and this darkness can be overwhelming and self-defeating yet God is a revealer to them who struggle and can
reveal his love to us even in our darkest times. What was true for Jacob can also hold true for us today.
Here are a few verses:
If God be for us then who can be against us?
When the enemy comes in like a flood God will raise a standard against him.
Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.
Put on the whole armor of God….
We are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus
Lord, we thank you that the battles we fight and the darkness that sometimes comes into our lives are not a problem for you. When
we sometimes feel we cannot go on in the struggles we labor under and the oppression we bare, yet you can reveal a truth to us and
that truth will be all we need to awake with in the morning. We thank you that you are the God of all comfort and that you also work
in the background of our lives bringing us into more fulfilled promises and covenant. I ask Lord that you unify your body today and
bring the “real church” forward like a mighty army before you. Chase away the darkness from off our backs and give us a huge
portion of your grace and peace. That no weapon formed against us will defeat us but that you will break every time the weapons and
turn them into foolish before the very eyes of them who try to trip us up. To you we bring praise and more praise, amen!
