What God Has Always Wanted: The Bible’s Big Idea from Genesis through Revelation

By Charles F. Boyd

I never thought of using a picture book to present the Gospel to children. In the past I’ve had Bible storybooks with pictures in them but nothing like this. This book’s message is a masterpiece for parents who want to share with their children about the Gospel and help them understand what the Bible is all about. In broad strokes, it shares the history of man and what God has wanted for us.

This book does not break down the Bible into individual books or focus on specific stories. Instead, it blends the stories of the Bible together to help young children understand that God has a plan for people and that His plans started at creation. The focus in this book isn’t on heroes or villains at all – it is on God and what He has wanted for us and what He has done for us.

I was not a big fan of the illustrations but they did not detract from the message of this book and I think that the message is really the heart of this book. The illustrations will help a child visualize the story but not get them so wrapped up in them that they forget to hear the message. I especially liked the glossary provided for parents. It was so simple that even new Christians, can answer children’s questions about the Bible, death, eternal life, and so much more.
