When our Master was walking with us, he was launching an all new creation in his
universe. At the core of that creation was the instrument through which God’s kingdom
would come upon the earth – his church.
The ancient word that he used for church was
“ek-klessia” from two Greek words which meant ek- “out of” and kaleo-” to be
called” or “to call.” His church is the gathering of those who are called out. We
have been called by our Master to come out of the world into his special mission. This
call is a call that singles us out as belonging to him. Every Christian is called, and every
believer has a calling.
We are the Lord’s Church. He loves us with an everlasting love. It follows that we are to love him with our whole
heart, and also that we love each other. No other institution can be the Church. Only we can bring him the joy of our
love. This week as we live in the community of faith, let’s be sure that we draw close to God with our love and
affections. Let us reach out to our brothers and sisters in Christ as we should. And never forget to go into the world
with the good news of Christ’s Gospel. Remember, we’re HIS CHURCH, commissioned to do his work.
