‘Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ on DVD – a Review

Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released on October 6 in high-definition Blu-ray with the standard definition edition following on November 24. The releases of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs launches Disney’s new product line – the Diamond Collection. The Diamond Collection experience adds bells and whistles like high definition content, superior picture and sound, and more.
I have to say, viewing Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, I was impressed with how sharp and colorful the picture was as well as the clarity of the sound. The movie is still as utterly charming as Snow White’s prince, and it retains enough excitement and action to hold a child’s attention in the modern world. Kids will probably be amused by Snow White’s high, trilling, munchkin voice.
The movie is a sweet story with some very scary moments which I think children will still find as entertaining today as they did in 1937. The beautiful young princess Snow White is forced to be a scullery maid by her evil stepmother the Queen who dabbles in witchcraft and black magic. Each day the Queen asks her magic mirror the question: “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” As long as the mirror answers the Queen’s name, all is well. However, one day when the mirror replies with Snow White’s name, the evil Queen begins her quest to kill Snow White so the Queen may resume her place as “the fairest of them all.”
Snow White, is forced to flee deep into the woods where the animals and seven mining dwarfs take her in. As a scullery maid, the young princess has learned to clean and cook, tasks she happily performs for the dwarfs. One of the sweetest scenes is when Snow White kneels beside her bed (fashion from several dwarf beds pushed together) and says her bedtime prayers. Sadly, you don’t see that in modern Disney movies.
Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a great movie for children and families.
