‘Waitress’ with Keri Russell, Nathan Fillion, and Andy Griffith – a Review

I finally got to see “Waitress” with Keri Russell, Nathan Fillion, Andy Griffith and Jeremy Sisto at the Mt. Airy Cinema… and I cannot imagine a more fitting place to see one of Andy Griffith’s finest performances. Sure, he cussed in the movie, and I wasn’t overly fond of that, but his acting was top-notch, and the movie had a rather sweet moral to its rather quirky story.
“Waitress” is a comedy-drama film starring Keri Russell as Jenna, a waitress trapped in an unhappy marriage with her abusive husband Earl (Jeremy Sisto). Jenna works at Joe’s Pie Diner, where she waits tables and makes pies. She hopes to escape her life by entering a pie-making contest with a $25,000 grand prize, but Earl has forbidden her.
Jenna’s humdrum life changes when she discovers she is pregnant and then meets the new physician in town, Jim Pomatter (Nathan Fillion). At first not happy about the pregnancy, Jenna grows to love the baby, which gives her the courage to begin making changes in her life. Joe, the grumpy owner of the Pie Diner (Griffith), admires Jenna’s qualities and encourages her to make a new life. Cheryl Hines and Adrienne Shelly round out the cast as Jenna’s coworkers.
