Vibe Gospel Music Kicks off VGM Week 2005

It’s one of the biggest events in Canadian gospel music and it’s where the people decide. On Monday, May 9, 2005 at Mitchell’s Bookstore, 1020 Islington Rd. in Etobicoke, Ontario, VGM launches a full week of inspirational and educational events. All leading up to the main event on May 14, the Shai Awards the people’s choice awards for Canadian Gospel Music.
VGM Week is Canada’s annual Christian/Contemporary Gospel music gathering. This week-long event brings together artists, industry, media, retail, managers, agents, promoters, sponsors and music fans. During VGM Week music genres will include Contemporary pop, Rock, Country, Rap/Hip-Hop, Aboriginal, Francophone and Instrumental, just to name a few.
The weeklong event will see more than 30 of Canada’s premier and up and coming gospel artists performing at both the Shai Awards and the four (4) nights of Aspiring Artist Showcase Competitions. Educational workshops and seminars will be geared to media, choir, artists, promoters, agents and managers. A Networking Breakfast, Gala Awards Dinner and After Party are additional highlights and opportunities to network throughout the week, along with the Friday night youth explosion “Stand up and be Counted” Rally.
VGM and the Shai Awards (formally Vibe Awards) — the Canadian Gospel People’s Choice Awards — is the first of its kind in Canada whereby people across the country are able to choose and vote for their favourite Canadian gospel artists in 23 separate categories. Well known Toronto Argonauts coach Michael “Pinball” Clemons and his wife Diane will be hosting the May 14th event in Mississauga at the Hershey Centre.
