Veteran’s Day: Remember…

It is the soldier, not the reporter
who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet
who has given us the freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer
who has gives us the freedom to demonstrate.
It is the soldier, not the evangelist
who has given us the freedom of religion.
It is the soldier who salutes the flag,
who serves beneath the flag,
who allows the protester to burn the flag,
and
whose coffin is draped by the flag.
This was sent to us anonymously several years ago. I have seen this poem attributed to both Father Dennis Edward O’Brian, USMC and Charles M. Province. If anyone can shed light on the real author, I would like to give proper credit.
