Verity recording artists garnered a total of seventeen
nominations at the 32nd Annual Dove Awards press conference held recently
at Nashville’s Renaissance Hotel. Nominees include platinum-selling,
award-winning writer, artist and producer Fred Hammond, John P. Kee, Ben
Tankard and writer, producer, artist Donnie McClurkin.
Leading the Verity nominees with eight Gospel Music Association nods for
his work as artist, writer and producer is Fred Hammond. Together with his
vocal ensemble, Radical For Christ, Hammond garnered two nominations as
artist and producer in the Urban Recorded Song category for “I Want My
Destiny”; two in the Contemporary Gospel Album category as artist and
producer on Purpose By Design, and two in the Long Form Music Video
category for his work as artist and producer on the Purpose By Design
video.
Hammond is also up for a Dove in the category in the Traditional Gospel
Recorded Song for “When You Praise.” Also in this category are label-mates
John P. Kee, up for two Doves as artist and writer of “Greater”, and Donnie
McClurkin who has an artist nomination for “We Fall Down” written by Benson
artist Kyle Matthews.
McClurkin’s total nominations total five, including two for artist and
writer in the Contemporary Gospel Recorded Song category for ” That’s What
I Believe” and two as artist and producer in the Contemporary Gospel Album
category for Live In London & More.
Ben Tankard received two nods for his work as artist and producer on Christmas Love in the Instrumental Album category.
Fred Hammond was recently honored with three 2001 Stellar Awards for Best
Male Vocalist, Best Contemporary Male Vocalist and Producer of the Year.
He was also nominated for Outstanding Contemporary Gospel Artist for an
NAACP Image Award as well as a GRAMMY in the Best Contemporary Soul Gospel
Album category for Purpose By Design. Donnie McClurkin’s Dove-nominated
single “We Fall Down” is crossing over to R & B radio across the nation
with adds on stations including KISS-FM in New York city, WGCI in Chicago
and KJLH in Los Angeles.
