Valentines for Siblings, Strategy for Parents

Parents, do you get tired of breaking up annoying fights between your children? Disputes that are so silly, “who took who’s spot,” “who touched who” or “that’s mine!” So as parents, we must seize every opportunity we have. We can do this by constantly sprinkling God’s Word into every situation, with the goal of each child forming habits of applying it to all areas of their lives. So on this Valentine’s Day when your kids prepare Valentines for classmates, have them take some time to put together one for their sibling(s).

Here is a great verse for your kids to put on their Valentines to each other:
Mark 12:28-31

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength, The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” There is no commandment greater than these.”

This is short and powerful! It helps them see that if Christ is in their hearts, they should love Him with all of their; hearts, soul, mind and strength. It will also emphasize how important it is to God that ‘they’ love their ‘neighbor’ as themself. They might get a chuckle out of seeing their siblings as their neighbor. But if it gets them to think, then you have accomplished something big!

Encourage them the next time they begin to bicker to apply God’s Word to their situation. These are small but important steps, our kids need to see how very real God’s Word is and how intimate His Love is for us!
If your child(ren) have not yet accepted Christ, this is still a great thing to do. You are showing them the importance of salvation. You are setting the bar high for them spiritually. As we turn our kids over to God, He will bless, protect and open doors that we cannot! Happy Valentine’s Day!
