Christian vocal/instrumental group Truth will mark its
30th year in ministry as it embarks on its Farewell Tour this fall. To
commemorate the group’s final year, Brentwood/Benson Publishing is releasing
BLESSED, a choir book, ensemble, and praise group project by Truth. Truth
has also recorded a new fifty song collection on three CDs, featuring songs
from their three decades of ministry (1971-1981; 1981-1991; 1991-2001). The
package entitled LEGACY will be available only via concert sales.Roger Breland, who organized the group in 1971, broke the news of the final
tour to group members during a meeting in Fayetteville, North Carolina. “For
the past year my family and I have been praying about our future,” Breland
said. “We believe this final chapter will complete the vision that God
launched 30 years ago.”
As the singing group Truth, prepares for its final concert
tour after 30 years of ministry, founder Roger Breland has established a
special goal for the group to reach. Breland hopes to build a Truth Hospital
in Africa for children and adults afflicted with leprosy. So far, Truth’s
efforts have garnered nearly 500 sponsorships this year.
“Our goal is to raise $100,000 by the time our Farewell Tour ends in June
2002,” says Breland. “Leprosy is so scarce in the U.S. that the disease is
hardly talked about anymore. But the truth is, over 800,000 people are
newly-diagnosed with leprosy each year. It tears your heart out to see
children afflicted with this horrible disease.”
“That’s what we want our legacy to be,” Breland continues. “We want to build
a clinic or hospital dedicated to curing people with leprosy. Truth is
focused on making that dream become a reality.”
Truth’s Farewell Tour is scheduled to begin this winter and end next June
with a final performance in Franklin, Tennessee.
Last year, Roger Breland and Truth were inducted into the Gospel Music
Association’s Hall Of Fame. During the past three decades, Truth has
recorded 60 albums and performed for more than ten million people in 9000+
concerts.
