143/Atlantic Records new and fast-rising artist, Plus
ONE is gearing up for their U.S. tour with first-time sponsorship by Trans World Entertainment Corporation.
Their headlining 40-market spring tour will break new ground in the Christian
genre with a stage show like no other that will feature a new crop of
teen/pop artists with a first-ever sponsorship by Trans World Entertainment
Corporation.
Trans World Entertainment Corporation is one of the largest specialty music
and video retailers in the United States. Founded in 1972, the Company
currently operates nearly one thousand stores in 44 states, the District of
Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and operates a retail web
site at www.twec.com. Its stores are divided into two categories: mall-based
and freestanding. Mall-based stores include Record Town, Camelot Music, The
Wall, Saturday Matinee and F.Y.E. (For Your Entertainment). Freestanding
stores include Coconuts Music & Movies, Strawberries, Spec’s and Planet
Music.
“This is our first tour sponsorship ever,” Jim Stella, Christian Music Buyer
for Trans World said. “We felt it would be a great opportunity to let
consumers know that Trans World stores are in the Christian music business.”
Coinciding with the tour, Plus ONE will be prominently displayed in Trans
World stores during the months of April and May. “With the strength we have
in mainstream pop music, we thought it would be great to partner with Plus
One. Plus One really deserves an opportunity to be at mainstream retail with
their pop music counterparts (NSync and Backstreet Boys),” Stella said.
Recently nominated for five Dove Awards, including New Artist of the Year,
Group of the Year, Pop/Contemporary Album of the year for The Promise, Pop/Contemporary
Recorded Song and Song of the Year, Plus ONE continues to make their mark as
one of the fastest rising acts in the Christian music industry.
An explosive year for Plus ONE, their debut release, The Promise vaulted the
group to the top of the Christian charts and was the best selling artist
project in the year 2000 for the CBA (Christian Booksellers Association). The Promise also set a debut week record for most units sold by a new
contemporary Christian artist. And that was just the start of an amazing
year. The group appeared on “Days of Our Lives” in August, performing
“Written On My Heart.” Plus ONE performed with Monica on ABC’s Christmas Eve
special, “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” In addition, Plus ONE was
featured as one of the new artists of 2000 on TNN’s annual television
special, “Class of 2000.” Their video “Last Flight Out,” was highlighted on
Disney’s Zoog TV and was recently named Zoog’s #1 most requested video. Also
shown on Nickelodeon and Fox Family Video, “Last Flight Out” opened the door
for Plus ONE to host “Slime Time Live” on Nickelodeon. The guys also
contributed to the Pokemon 2000 The Power of One soundtrack and were part of
national promotions for Pepsi, Macy’s and Uncle Ben’s Rice. Other major
endorsements include: Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein eyewear, Guess and Paul
Mitchell hair care products.
Plus ONE, the Nashville-based vocal quintet made up of Nathan Walters, Nate
Cole, Jeremy Mhire, Jason Perry, and Gabe Combs, made their debut in 2000
with The Promise, issued via a joint venture from Atlantic Records’ and
David Foster’s 143 Records. Less than a year after its release, the album hit the RIAA gold mark.
