An Agape Christmas
Agape is the Greek word for unconditional pure giving love. It is also the name of a child services organization that provides adoptions, foster care, maternity services, counseling, and other children’s services. On December 17, Donna Gorlier, president of the Belle Meade Plantation Belles Barbie Club, and Kathryn Darden, publisher of Christian Activities Magazine, met at KB Toys at Bellevue Center to pick up the toys local Bellevue residents and doll club members had donated to the toy drive for Agape, Inc. Almost 70 toys and dolls were collected to hand out to children at the Agape Christmas party. This is the fourth year for the annual Bellevue toy drive organized by Christian Activities Magazine and the Belle Meade Plantation Belles Barbie Club. This year’s drive was the biggest yet with the additional support provided by KB Toys.
Christian Activities Magazine has partnered with the Belle Meade Plantation Belles Barbie Club and Agape, Inc. for four years to help collect toys for the annual Agape Christmas party. Agape actually now sponsors two Christmas parties, a Christmas party for teenagers on December 17 and on the 18 a party for the younger children. The parties are for children who are in care through Agape’s foster care program and that are in holding for placement for adoption. Toys are also given to new children in the program as well as their siblings and are used for birthdays and other special occasions.
Agape Inc., is a Christian child’s services agency which offers counseling adoptions, maternity services, and foster care. Agape has been serving children in Middle Tennessee for over 30 years. Anyone is invited to get involved with Agape, Inc. through private donations, corporate donations, volunteering, and donating toys. For more information on Agape, Inc, visit their website at Agape.
The collection sites for Toys for Agape are Agape, Inc. at 4555 Trousdale Ave. in Nashville and KB Toys in Bellevue Center Mall on Highway 70 South in Bellevue. KB Toys is offering a special Charity 10% discount if you purchase your toy at KB in Bellevue Center Mall, say it is for Agape, and drop it off in the drop off box located at KB Toys. If you need assistance locating the right toy at the right price, ask the management staff for assistance. Toys may also be dropped off in the back room of Shoneys, Bellevue, between 7pm and 9pm on Thursday, December 6.
