Time Again…Amy Grant Live
Amy Grant
(Word/Curb/Warner Bros.)
With a music ministry nearing the thirty-year mark, you can say that Amy Grant has accomplished quite a bit over the years: twenty-five million plus albums sold, countless awards, numerous mainstream hits, and most recently a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (a first for a CCM artist). While the previously mentioned are all great, it’s Grant’s music that’s been her greatest long-running accomplishment, and any fan will agree. Over the years Grant has touched many lives with her heart-felt, honest tunes, and there’s no better way to highlight these songs than to release a career-spanning live project.
After a twenty-five year gap since her last live disc, Grant has pleased many longtime fans (including this one) with the release of Time Again…Amy Grant Live, a seventeen song live set recorded earlier this year in Ft. Worth, TX. Returning to the same city where she performed her first paid concert twenty-eight years ago, Time Again offers the listener a front–row seat to this intimate musical trip down memory lane and into the heart and soul of this pioneering Christian artist.
From the opening chords of “Lead Me On”, up until the closing notes of “I Will Remember You”, you’ll be treated to a one-of-a-kind audio experience you won’t soon forget. You’ll enjoy such Grant classics as “Thy Word” and “In A Little While”, mixed amongst newer songs like “Out In The Open” and “Believe”, all presented with new, earthy arrangements. Musical highlights of the CD include “Lead Me On”, “Stay For A While”, a groovy version of “Good For Me”, “Oh How The Years Go By”, and longtime favorite “Saved By Love.” As a bonus, the CD contains a new studio version of the classic “In A Little While” and a four-track “teaser” of the companion DVD. The bonus DVD contains live video of the classics “Thy Word” and “Stay For Awhile”; along with newer hits “Takes A Little Time” and “Lucky One.” Just enough to convince you that you definitely want the full DVD as well.
The selection of songs for this career retrospective set was well thought out, in the fact that it spans a vast majority of her catalog (Age to Age through 2003’s Simple Things), as well as highlighting all the different aspects of her career (humble Christian music artist, Pop superstar). My only complaint about the set list, and I’m showing my true colors as a longtime fan now, is the exclusion of the classic tunes “My Father’s Eyes” and “El Shaddai”, which both appear on the DVD version of Time Again.
Time Again is by far one of the best live CD’s released to date, capturing perfectly the essence of a Grant show. While some live projects seem too polished and don’t offer the “you’re right there” feel, that can’t be said for this one. Time Again offers Grant fans, both old and new, one musical journey you won’t want to miss. Enjoy!
