Atlanta rock band Third Day is honored
with its third consecutive Grammy nomination. The band’s fastest selling
and critically acclaimed recording, Offerings – A Worship Album, has
received a nod from the Recording Academy for Best Rock Gospel Album. The
band has been nominated in the same category for its previous two
recordings, Time and Conspiracy No. 5. Third Day’s latest nomination was
read at a press conference for the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards held this
morning at the Loews Vanderbilt Plaza in Nashville.
After receiving news of
its third consecutive Grammy nomination, Atlanta CBS affiliate, WGCL TV, as
well as the top Georgia daily paper, the Atlanta Journal – Constitution,
contacted Third Day for feature interviews. The CBS station plans to run a
significant story on the band around the time of the 43rd Annual GRAMMY

“Third Day is one of those rare bands that consistently garner praise from

With accolades mounting, Third Day’s Grammy nomination caps a year of
significant achievements. Billboard named Third Day as one of the top 10
contemporary Christian Recording Artists in its recent year-end issue. WithOfferings – A Worship Album, Third Day also holds the year 2000 title for
the longest running No. 1 project from any artist or group as reported by
SoundScan on the Top Christian Albums chart. The album spent an incredible
six weeks at the top of chart. The last recording artist to hold the No. 1
position on the chart as long as Third Day was Steven Curtis Chapman with
Speechless, and that album has been RIAA certified Platinum. Offerings – A
Worship Album further captured the No. 1 position on the elusive Rock sales
chart an amazing 15 weeks after it was released July 11. Wresting the No. 1
position on the chart from Atlantic Records’ band POD, the feat is a
testament to the project’s continually mounting sales, longevity, and fan
support.
In addition to sales, Offerings – A Worship Album, is enjoying multi-format
radio success. The album has garnered the band its 14th No. 1 song with the
live version of “Your Love Oh Lord.” The studio version of the song is from
Time, which was named Rock Album of the Year during last year’s annual Dove
Award ceremony. On radio in year 2000 alone, Third Day spent eleven full
weeks at No. 1 spanning both the Christian Hits (CHR) and Rock radio charts
(The CCM Update). The band also spent four more weeks at No. 1 on the radio
charts with the song “God of Wonders” from City On A Hill – Songs Of Worship
And Praise.
Produced by Monroe Jones and the band,Offerings – A Worship Album, combines
the band’s heart for worship with its unparalleled live show. The album
includes six live concert versions of Third Day worship favorites, such as
“Agnus Dei” and “My Hope Is You.” Offerings – A Worship Album, further
features five completely new worship songs, including another hit radio
single, “King of Glory.” Third Day also gives their own rootsy
southern-edged rock treatment to a Bob Dylan classic, the title cut from his
critically acclaimed album, Saved.
“For the last five years our fans have asked us for a live album and a
worship album,” said Third Day member Mark Lee. “This project is our answer
to both requests.”
“Since Third Day’s inception, our desire has been to bring glory, honor and
praise to Jesus Christ,” continues band member Tai Anderson. “We strive to
re-define what is traditionally considered praise and worship music.”
Responding to Third Day’s presentation of praise and worship music, fans
recently caused Third Day to change its touring plans. Although originally
planning to take some time off from the road, Third Day, facing mounting
pressure from the industry, and more importantly, the band’s fans, discarded
its former plans and is currently routing a 30 to 35-city Winter/Spring 2001
Offerings Tour slated to begin Feb. 16. Doubling the number of cities from
this fall’s tour, which launched to critical acclaim and drew packed
audiences at 18 concerts across the country, the spring encore tour will
bring back special guest and Sparrow Records artist Kendall Payne, as well
as add Vertical Music recording artist Lincoln Brewster. Updated

Third Day is currently in Australia on its first tour there and will make an
appearance, while on tour in California, at the Grammy award ceremony to be
held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles Feb. 21.
The 43rd Annual GRAMMY Awards, staged at Staples Center in Los Angeles, will
be broadcast February 21 on the CBS Television Network beginning at 8:00
p.m. EST.
