There was a time when Gary Chapman was known largely as a man behind the success of others. Now, he’s largely in front – in front of the TV camera and audiences nation wide. He’s toured with large tours, hosted Olympic rallies, has a full-time job as host of TNN’s Prime Time Country and CCM Countdown with Gary Chapman, and enjoys spending every other Spring/Fall Sunday evening at the Ryman Auditorium with some of the biggest names in Christian and Country music on his own variety show “Sam’s Place”; yet no role fits him better or connects with greater impact than that of Gary Chapman playing and singing his own songs. His latest release, Shelter, reveals this multi-talented artist.

When asked what the word “shelter” means to Gary, he reflects, “When I think of shelter, I think of holding my daughter Sarah- that’s shelter.” This statement became the focus of the album cover, which visually captures his heart and thoughts. And the many songs that comprise Shelter paint a picture of the man behind the music. Among the powerful and profound messages is the touching pop-flavored balled, “One of Two,” featuring wife Amy Grant. This song is a testament of the strength of romantic love placed in God’s hands. Putting 14 years of marriage and family into a few words, Gary calls the song, “The story of Amy and me condensed into four minutes.”

Still, with all of his achievements and accolades, Gary maintains a refresh-ingly humble outlook about himself and his work. “I’m not self-important enough to think I can change the world with my music,” he states. “My greatest hope is that what I do – even just one song – would be something God could use to change someone’s heart.”

This month has Gary on TNN during the weekdays, airing in more than 200 markets each week for the countdown, and at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium two Sunday evenings at “Sam”s Place.” Guests will include Riders In The Sky, Christafari, Jaci Velasquez, Susan Ashton, and others.
