The goal of Christianity is Christ. That goal seems so simple but is counter to our entire human spirit.
In the
first sin we became a people seeking significance. We want to be valuable to God. When we hear Christ say
“Well done, good and faithful servant,” what we want is to be pleasing in his sight.
It is difficult to grasp
the meaning of “All glory be to God.” It becomes increasingly harder to live the fully surrendered life.
The sincere believer who each year hungers to go deeper will be most confronted by the idol of self. Here we
all come face to face with his cross.
