The 28th annual TN Ren Fest in Triune has been taking place every weekend in May with one weekend remaining to catch all the action. The biggest weekend of the fair is the three-day Royal Jousting Tournament Weekend which is held over Memorial Day Weekend when armored knights fight with swords and lances on horseback.
The Renaissance Festival offers a great deal of fun for families with shows, rides and events tailored for the little ones as well as adults. The first weekend of the Ren Faire each year is Family Weekend, but the rest of the weekends have a lot to offer children and their parents, too.
The Robin Hood Show utilizes boys and girls from the audience in the performance, and Queen Elizabeth does a daily knighting ceremony for young ones. Children enjoy coming in last year’s Halloween costumes as fairies, princesses, knights, pirates, Robin Hood and other Medieval, Renaissance and literary figures.
There are camel rides and several hand-operated rides that spin, twirl, climb and zip line. The Birds of Prey show features a young apprentice and numerous fascinating birds. And of course, all the little ones enjoy the bus ride across the street to Castle Gwynn as well as the jousting, rides, music, food and shows.
There is some drinking on site and Axel the Sot can get a bit raunchy, but overall the festivities are family friendly, moderately educational and well worth a visit.
Catch the Royal Jousting Tournament at the Tennessee Renaissance Festival over Memorial Day Weekend. Bring the whole family and plan to spend the day!
