Supreme Court Overturns Roe v. Wade in Landmark Decision, Christians Thankful

~Supreme Court Finally Overturns Roe v. Wade, Christian organizations and leaders applaud decision, featuring Franklin Graham, Ken Paxton, Marsha Blackburn, more~

Today the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the controversial 1973 decision that legalized abortion nationwide. In a 6-3 ruling, the nation’s high court concluded that the U.S. Constitution does not guarantee a right to abortion. The landmark ruling is centered around a Mississippi law that banned abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy. The new ruling puts the power of abortion rights at the state level rather than the federal level.

Christian Activities joins with other Christian groups, organizations and leaders in applauding this bold correction.

David Kubal, President and Chief Executive Officer of Intercessors for America, made the following statement today after the Supreme Court Announcement in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization:

“Today marks a point in history that many could not imagine would be possible in their lifetime – Roe v. Wade has been reversed. Intercessors have been praying for decades to end the false definition of viability and personhood and for our nation to protect the most innocent. Our prayers have been answered, but we are not finished yet.

“Now is the time for the Church to make a significant impact in our nation and to do so by interceding on the state level. We have the opportunity to impact our states through laws protecting the unborn. This is the next battleground in the fight for life.

“Prayer has gotten us this far and I am excited to see it work on the local level as we mobilize prayer warriors to specifically intercede to support life-protecting laws in their own state.”

Alliance of Health Care Sharing Ministries made the following statement:

“Health Care Sharing Ministries have always been the only certain pro-life option for managing health care costs in many states. While the Alliance celebrates the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade, we recognize that state laws will now become the core battleground over the sanctity of all human life. In the run-up to the Dobbs v. Jackson ruling, a number of states have already started to pass laws requiring commercial and government insurance plans to pay for abortions, even up to the moment of birth. It will be hard for Christians in those states to remain in the insurance market without concerns that their premium dollars could be used to pay for abortions for other customers of their insurance company. Christians can rest assured that Health Care Sharing Ministries will never violate their conscience, operating non-insurance programs that have always been and always will be consistent with their faith.”

Samaritan Ministries International celebrates the historic overturning of Roe v. Wade.

One spokesperson stated, “Samaritan Ministries rejoices that the lives of many unborn children will be saved due to the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision overturning Roe v. Wade.

“Because our mission is to redeem health care, we are committed to protecting, supporting, and advancing the sanctity of all human life, which is made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26). Through its 27 years of sharing health care needs, Samaritan has always stood for life by not sharing expenses related to abortion. Our ministry also founded The Morning Center, a charitable maternity ministry in Memphis and Atlanta that serves low-income mothers and babies.

“Since 1973, and after more than 63 million abortions of unborn children, the Supreme Court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization has come as an answer to prayer,” said Art Ally, founder and president of the Timothy Plan family of Biblically Responsible Investing mutual funds and ETFs. “It’s also a long overdue corrective to legal tyranny and faulty legal reasoning that plunged our nation into a culture war that has not abated.

“Even the late liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg acknowledged that Roe v. Wade (1973) was an end-run around the Constitution,” Ally continued. “One of the pivotal factors driving the founding of the Timothy Plan in 1994 was our commitment to the pro-life cause. We wanted to offer people a way to invest in companies that don’t profit from or advocate for abortions, and we still do. Abortions create two victims: one person dead and a mother wounded. As Christians, we cannot stand by and see human life treated as a disposable commodity, and women lied to about what is being done to them. Timothy Plan has long supported crisis pregnancy centers and pro-life advocacy.”

Attorney General Ken Paxton made his feelings known on Twitter, tweeting, “SCOTUS just overruled Roe & Casey, ending one of the most morally & legally corrupt eras in US history. Praise the Lord. Abortion is now illegal in Texas. And today I’m closing my office—and making it an annual holiday—as a memorial to the 70 million lives lost bc of abortion.”

D. L. Moody Center President Dr. James Spencer commented:

“Today, we celebrate the SCOTUS decision in Dobbs v. Jackson. Eliminating the federal standard regarding abortion access is an appropriate step in aligning our nation with God’s order, yet many will not see it that way. We must temper our rejoicing with compassion and grace. My hope is that God’s people will not treat this as a primarily political win, but as an opportunity for the church to build bridges with those with whom we disagree and to care for and support women and families for whom pregnancy creates unique struggles. It is an opportunity for us to reflect Christ in a fallen world and we must make the most of it.”

Senator Marsha Blackburn posted this statement: “Having worked for years alongside Tennesseans to protect the innocent lives of unborn children, I applaud the Supreme Court ruling. Despite false claims from the left, this decision will not ban abortion. Instead, it returns the decision to the states and empowers state legislatures with more flexibility to craft policy through the democratic process. It is unacceptable that a draft opinion was leaked in advance and that the person responsible has not been caught. The leaker has jeopardized the safety of our justices, and threats of violence by the radical militant mob are unacceptable. We appreciate the brave law enforcement officers working overtime to protect our justices and their families.”

Bethany and Ryan Bomberger, co-founders of The Radiance Foundation released this statement: “As a former single mother who faced an unplanned pregnancy and a father who was conceived in rape but adopted in love, we rejoice today that a supremely wrong decision has been aborted. Roe v. Wade, under the guise of equality, violently stripped it away from the most defenseless among us, killing over 64 million since 1973. Roe never empowered women. It empowered abortionists who profited from fear and exploitation. We look forward to the cultural erasure of Planned Parenthood, a corrupt $2 billion taxpayer-funded abortion business that preys on the vulnerable. The pro-life movement will continue to do what we’ve been doing for decades — loving those facing unplanned pregnancies and providing for them medically, materially, emotionally, and spiritually. The battle for life will continue in the states until every member of the human family is treated equally.”

New York Times best-selling author Jonathan Cahn had this to say about the historic decision: “Now that the Supreme Court followed through and overturned Roe v. Wade, it is the first but major step in turning back that which history will judge as a great evil. In the Bible, the fiftieth year is the Jubilee — the year of restitution, when that which taken is restored, and that which was done is reversed. The fiftieth Jubilean Year of Roe v. Wade in America is this year! It comes to an end January 22, 2023. We pray that it be a true year of Jubilee, of the saving of lives, and of restoration.”

United States Parents Involved in Education (USPIE) President and Founder Sheri Few commented, “Today, we celebrate the long-awaited overturning of Roe v. Wade and the unconstitutional imposition of ‘legal’ abortion on every state by the federal government.

For the last 20 years, one in four adolescent pregnancies have ended in abortion, and for decades, government schools have allowed Planned Parenthood to teach children how to have sex, knowing the result is often pregnancy — which can lead to abortion. Teaching children how to have sex is very profitable for the abortion industry. U.S. Parents Involved in Education believes that ending the sexualization of children in government schools will result in fewer unplanned pregnancies.”

The Faith & Freedom Coalition applauds the Supreme Court of the United States’ ruling to overturn Roe v. Wade and affirm the constitutional right to life and liberty for ALL. Executive Director Timothy Head said, ”We join with the millions of pro-life Americans across the country today in celebrating this monumental victory nearly 50 years in the making.

“Without question, today is a day for rejoicing. For almost 50 years, pro-life Americans have been praying and working to protect innocent life. Today, we have seen that our prayers were being heard and our labor was not in vain. But the fight for life remains in America. This decision will only embolden abortion activists to pressure individual states to pass radical pro-abortion legislation. In fact, nearly 100 local prosecutors across the country already have stated they will not enforce pro-life statutes in their jurisdictions. The pro-abortion movement will not let up, so neither can we. One of the most powerful ways pro-life Americans can continue the fight for life is by showing up at the polls this November and voting for candidates for federal, state, and local offices that support our God-given right to life. Today’s ruling is a powerful reminder that, in America, our vote truly can shape history.”

Christian Activities publisher Kathryn Darden shared her perspective: “I am glad my own birth mother made the decision to give me up for adoption rather than abort me. All three of my siblings were adopted. With all its ups and downs, how rich the experience of life is, and all unborn babies have the right to experience it.”

Franklin Graham stated that while this is an important day for our nation, and the ruling is an answer to decades of prayer, the battle to protect innocent lives is far from over. As the issue now shifts to the state level, Graham encourages Christians to pray for these three specific things:
  • Peace and healing—Some groups are calling for violent protests. Ask God to protect our justices, pregnancy care center staff, and pro-life organizations across the nation.
  • State legislation—Pray for lawmakers in each state, that God will give them wisdom and strength to enact laws to guard children in the womb.
  • Courage for God’s people—This victory is a result of many people standing for God’s truth about the sanctity of life. Ask Him to encourage and embolden His people to remain faithful to His Word in all areas of life, no matter what our culture says.

“Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, and before you were born, I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.'”

Jeremiah 1:4-5
