A band whose music has been heard in more than 60 films and TV shows including both Legally Blonde movies, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, West Wing, plus Law and Order, will headline at AGMF 07 in Toowoomba next Easter (6-8 April 2007) along with 20 year old Texan blues rocker Jimmy Needham.
Superchic[k], the energetic Chicago based sextet that has just scored a major recording deal with Sony BMG, exhibits a unique, new wave/rock sound coupled with positive, uplifting lyrics covering serious and witty topics. The group has generated broad mainstream interest scoring guest appearances on CNN and MTV, plus features in Newsweek, and The New York Times.
Superchic[k]’s latest album Beauty From Pain 1.1 offers music that’s as well done as most music getting mainstream airplay today. The CD’s most uplifting song Anthem is a rousing girls-rock, girls-rule, girl-power tune.
AGMF 07 marks Superchic[k]’s second visit to Australia and its first appearance at the festival that grown to become the largest Christian music event in the country. The band originally planed to appear at AGMF 06, but postponed its visit due to the sudden illness of an immediate family member.
Superchic[k] comprises vocalist Tina Brock, vocalist and guitarist Melissa Brock, bassist and vocalist Matt Dally, lead guitarist Dave Ghazarian, drummer Brandon Estelle and keyboardist and DJ Max Hsu.
Jimmy Needham, the 20-year-old college student from Texas A&M University, shares the headline bill at AGMF 07. Needham has made a name for himself on the independent artist circuit for the past two years with his soulful pop sound and passionate evangelical focus. Reminiscent of Jason Mraz and Marc Broussard, Needham combines his strong accomplished vocals with a bluesy acoustic guitar and meaningful song lyrics for a sound all his own.
Needham’s debut album Speak highlights his singer/songwriter side while demonstrating his rock, pop, and jazz-influences.
AGMF, an acronym for the Australian Gospel Music Festival, attracts more than 30 000 people to Toowoomba each year. Festival Organiser Isaac Moody says AGMF 07 will be the “best festival yet” with additional camping at Queens Park, a huge number of international artists, plus more attractions and larger venues than ever before.
Tickets for AGMF 07 tickets go on sale from 16 October. Prices are available online at www.agmf.com.au. AGMF will take place Easter weekend 6-8 April 2007.
Organisers expect a rush on bookings for the Queen’s Park Camping Ground, which completely sold out at AGMF 06.
Further headline acts will be announced in two weeks.
