Sparrow Signs Starfield

Award-winning Sparrow Records’ band, Starfield, makes its self-titled US debut May 18. Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and fronted by brothers, Tim and Jon Neufeld, Starfield is already one of the most awarded indie bands in Canada.
The music of harmony-driven rock/worship band Starfield has been nominated for a Juno Award (Canada’s equivalent of a GRAMMY Award), and were the winner of five Vibe Awards (Canada’s Dove Award equivalent) plus several other Canadian music awards for 2003. Preparing to springboard from its success as an indie to the international market, the band was pursued by numerous mainstream and Christian record labels. After choosing Sparrow Records, Starfield teamed with producer Matt Bronlewee (Natalie Imbruglia, Jars of Clay) to record the new album.
“Many new artists come into the studio without a firm grasp of who they are or what they’re about,” comments Bronlewee. “Not Starfield. Their songs are passionate, filled with a deep sense of purpose and fused with an even deeper understanding of why they’ve dedicated themselves to making great music.”
“Starfield takes a no-compromise approach to Christian music,” continues Bronlewee. “While most bands play it safe, Starfield hammers the point home, song by song, that you can make great art and still be relevant.”
Sparrow Records A&R representative, Brad O’Donnell, who discovered Starfield, adds, “A band like Starfield makes an A&R guy’s job so easy. Through all of the success they’ve had as an independent artist–all of their awards, their impressive record sales and their constant touring–they take away the guesswork in terms of whether or not people will respond when they hear the music.”
“Starfield’s Tim and Jon Neufeld are outstanding songwriters who know the meaning of a ‘big’ chorus,” notes Karen Bliss, freelance music journalist (Elle Canada, rollingstone.com, Audience and others). “I look forward to seeing them reach an even wider audience in the US and beyond. The music definitely has mass appeal.”
Starfield is recognized as one of the hardest working bands in Canada. Performing nearly 400 dates in support of its last two independent releases, the band has recently wrapped up a 30-plus city Canadian tour. Starfield carries this work-ethic to the States preparing for extensive touring beginning with several Acquire the Fire dates, shows with Chris Tomlin and Casting Crowns and several major summer festivals, including Alive, Creation East & West, Kingdom Bound and SoulFest.
In addition to their album, Starfield further recorded the U2 song “40,” for the critically acclaimed In The Name Of Love: Artists United for Africa recording, joining such well known artists as Sixpence None The Richer, Audio Adrenaline and tobyMac among others.
Starfield is managed by Proper Management, www.propermgmt.com (Avalon, Jump 5, ZOEgirl) and booked by Creative Artists Agency, www.caaccm.com (Third Day, Michael W. Smith.)
