Southeastern States Struggle after Helene
Most of the Southeast has been battered by the deadly Category 4 hurricane that made landfall late Thursday night in the Florida panhandle. When it came ashore, Helene was nearly the size of Texas, according to the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team. The Rapid Response Team and other organizations like Samaritan’s Purse are working to assist victims of the hurricane and its flooding.
More than 133 deaths in six Southeastern states have been reported due to the unpredictable storm that caused major damage from Florida’s Gulf Coast to the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia. Heavy rains and winds came inland as far as Nashville following the storm.
White House homeland security adviser Liz Sherwood-Randall said as many as 600 people were not accounted for as of Monday afternoon, indicating many of them might be deceased.
“Over one million homes in Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee are without power, leaving countless families to grapple with the loss of their homes, vehicles, loved ones, and, in some cases, entire towns,” states Andrew Torba of Gab. “This tragedy is a stark reminder that when disaster strikes, we simply cannot rely on our government to come to our rescue; it is in these moments that we must lean on each other and our faith.”
FEMA Is Out of Funds
Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas appears to agree, saying that FEMA does not have funds to cover another emergence, telling reporters, “We are expecting another hurricane hitting — we do not have the funds, FEMA does not have the funds, to make it through the season.”
Where Did FEMA’S Funds Go?
Where did all the taxpayer dollars go that were supposed to fund disaster relief? According to thecentersquare.com, in April this year, FEMA announced $640 million in new funding, $300 million for “direct funding” to help imported immigrants settle in the U.S. while the other $340 million went to cities via grants for the same purpose. And according to FEMA’s own statement, “Last year, more than $780 million was awarded through SSP and the Emergency Food and Shelter Program – Humanitarian Awards, which went to organizations and cities across the country,” organizations and cities hosting the influx of illegal aliens.
San Diego alone received $20MILLION dollars for a “Migrant Welcome Center” after the release of more than 136,000 illegal immigrants into the area by Border Patrol.
At least 12 million illegal immigrants have entered the U.S. under the Biden-Harris administration, although many experts report that figure to be much higher.
How Much Have We Donated to the Ukraine?
Meanwhile, according to the State Department, “To date, we have provided more than $61.3 billion in military assistance… and approximately $64.1 billion in military assistance since Russia’s initial invasion of Ukraine in 2014.”
Mr. Zelensky, we could use some of that money back for our own people. Hurricane season usually runs through the end of November.
