SCC Becomes DJ for A Day Of Hope Share-A-Thons

Steven Curtis Chapman will become DJ for a day when he visits Tulsa’s KXOJ and the K-LOVE Network this month for “A Day Of Hope Share-A-Thons.” Chapman’s wife Mary Beth will join him at K-LOVE in Sacramento. Both of these Share-A-Thons will raise funds to support Shaohannah’s Hope, the adoption foundation founded by the Chapmans and named after their first adopted daughter, now 3 years old and big sister to the new Chapman member, 9-month old Stevey Joy.
“I can’t thank KXOJ and K-LOVE enough for catching this vision and offering the use of their platform for this purpose,” comments Chapman. “They are taking important station time, resources and energy to make this happen and to me, it’s why God gives us Christian radio and these types of mediums. I’ve always believed one of the reasons I do music is because first and foremost, it’s a means to make Christ known and to talk about things I feel strongly about. These stations are giving me a tremendous opportunity to share about the need of orphans around the world and our opportunity to make a difference. I’m excited and hopeful that this can continue, that with these two stations stepping out to take the lead, more will come.”
Since its inception, the Shaohannah’s Hope Foundation has been primarily funded by the Chapmans, but with its national launch this past year and increased interest and opportunities for more families to be touched as well as give to the foundation’s efforts, events like these are now needed and possible. Due to his 15-year relationship with radio stations and radio staff, Chapman knew this would be a tremendous partnership, to talk about the needs of orphans and invite more people to become involved in assisting families to experience the miracle of adoption.
KXOJ and K-LOVE are the first two stations to jump on board to support these special radio events and are excited for this unique and rare opportunity to devote airtime for such a meaningful cause. The share-a-thons are not about raising funds for the stations or to promote Chapman’s music – they are solely for the cause of adoption.
Chapman explains, “This is not about me, it’s about calling attention to a critical need God has challenged. The radio share-a-thons are a chance for us to reach out to forgotten children in a foster home or orphanage, and give them hope and a family – to make that connection forever.”
Mike Novak, K-LOVE’s National Program Director, comments, “Bringing Steven Curtis Chapman to K-LOVE to share his passion for adopting children was something we knew our listeners would enjoy. Steven is one of our listeners’ favorite artists, and his heart for ministry is right in sync with K-LOVE.”
“We wouldn’t miss the opportunity to partner with Mary Beth and Steven Curtis Chapman on this fundraiser,” agrees K-LOVE’s General Manager, Lloyd Parker. “Through Shaohannah’s Hope, the Chapman’s are helping to place orphaned children worldwide in loving Christian homes. It’s a wonderful ministry.”
“We’re looking forward to working alongside Steven, Shaohannah’s Hope, and Creative Trust on something that is truly bigger than ourselves,” states Bob Thornton, National Program Director, Adonai Radio Group, KXOJ. “Steven has given us so much over the years with his music and it’s just natural for us to want to give back. To be able to ‘give the station’ to this tremendous foundation’s cause is very exciting and I look forward to seeing our listeners respond.”
KXOJ will also be conducting a large charity auction as part of their event, with a car being one of the items to bid on.

J. David Huffman, COO, Creative Trust, says, “We at Creative Trust are excited to support Steven and Mary Beth in their ever-expanding vision of Shaohannah’s Hope to educate our culture about the vast need for Christian families to step up and experience the miracle of adoption. It is motivating and humbling to see others in our industry, such as Family Christian Stores and stations such as KXOJ and K-LOVE, join their mission. In fact, Charlotte’s WRCM as well as KSBJ in Houston have already expressed their desire to do the A Day Of Hope Share-A-Thons in their cities, and we at Creative Trust look forward with anticipation to additional opportunities such as these in the future. This again proves that when all the parts of industry work together, great things can be accomplished.”
Chapman strongly believes the awareness of the need for adoption is to be found in the church. He comments, “Engaging the church in this process is what is going to be very exciting because the reality is adoption. In God’s heart, it is the church that is to lead adoption and to care for the family. Shaohannah’s Hope mission statement is based from The Bible in James 1, and the foundation exists to care for orphans by engaging the church and helping Christians reduce the financial barriers to adoption. We as Christians have the loudest voices and have access to a lot of people who can make that reality.”
