Gov. Sarah Palin surprised the country when she announced today that she will resign as governor of Alaska before the end of July. Gov. Palin held a news conference at her home in Wasilla, AK where she announced she was stepping down and that Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell would be inaugurated at the Governor’s Picnic at Pioneer Park in Fairbanks, AL on Saturday, July 25. (See Gov. Sarah Palin to Resign as Alaska Governor)
Gov. Palin did not say why she will resign. People are already speculating on why Sarah Palin is stepping down now. Some think Palin, who was the Republican vice presidential candidate in 2008, is getting ready for a run for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. Others believe Palin stepped down because she was constantly having to defend herself against ethics complaints and ongoing media negativity.
Sarah Palin was a constant media target, ridiculed her former beauty pageant career, her folksy sayings and for being a hunter. Gov. Palin was harshly criticized for the infamous “Bridge to Nowhere” and for firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. When it was revealed the Gov. Palin’s teenage daughter was pregnant, the liberal media used it to try to prove Palin’s traditional family values and Christian faith were a farce.
Palin is known as a person with deep religious convictions and has admitted to enjoying Amy Grant music as part of her daily runs. (See Gov. Sarah Palin announces resignation)
