Word Records (a Warner Bros./Curb co.) group Salvador is partnering with the American Bible Society on its “La Biblia Es Mi Guia” (“The Bible Is My Guide”) national advocacy campaign designed to promote Bible reading among Hispanics.
With an average of 200 touring dates annually, including this Fall’s tour following their Aug. 29 studio release, Dismiss The Mystery, Salvador was chosen by American Bible Society to promote La Biblia Es Mi Guia by utilizing the performances as vehicles for effective outreach. In addition to inviting the audience to attend in-depth Bible readings, Salvador will be providing free Spanish-language Scripture booklets featuring translated Biblical excerpts and study guides produced by the American Bible Society.
“La Biblia Es Mi Guia” is a national Bible advocacy campaign focused on reaching Latinos in strategic cities (New York, Miami, and Los Angeles) by partnering with prominent Latino figures to disseminate the Bible language. The campaign promotes additional outreach through popular internet sites like MySpace.com. Additionally, the American Bible Society will use its Bless a Bodega campaign to distribute free bible reading materials to neighborhood businesses in each of these key cities.
“Rarely do musical artists get the opportunity to work side by side with an organization of the caliber of the American Bible Society,” said Nic Gonzales, lead singer of Salvador. “As the son of a pastor and a Christian man, there is no greater honor than to be a part of a campaign that promotes reading the Bible. We look forward to working with such a great organization.”
“The Bible has influenced most, if not all of the lyrics we sing in church. It’s time for us to use music to persuade Bible readership,” said Rev. Emilio A. Reyes, vice president for Hispanic/Latino Ministries at American Bible Society. “Partnering with Salvador allows us to use their music ministry to entice young and old to turn to the Bible for guidance. The Bible will not have the impact it can have on the minds and hearts of individuals if it is not read and studied. Empirical research shows that church goers are not reading the Bible. Through the “La Biblia Es Mi Guía” campaign we at the American Bible Society will do our part to show everyone that the Bible is still alive and active.”
Salvador erupted onto the music scene seven years ago surrounded by the buzz of its soulful music, powerful vocals, and phenomenal live performances. Their widespread appeal to both pop and Latin audiences has kept the band vigorously touring, with appearances at Teen Mania’s Acquire The Fire youth conferences, Promise Keepers events as well as Billy Graham and Franklin Graham Crusades.
Salvador now has six records to its credit, including the Spanish-language album Con Poder (2003), which won the 2004 Dove Award for “Spanish Language Album of the Year.” The band has produced two Top 5 radio hits with “Breathing Life” and “Crucified” in addition to multiple Billboard Latin Music Award nominations. Their last single, “Heaven,” was Top 5 for 18 weeks on AC radio and was the 4th most played song of 2005. The current single released June 16, “Shine,” from the upcoming release Dismiss The Mystery, is presently working its way up the charts.
