Riverdance Returns to Nashville

Few shows have touched audiences like RIVERDANCE, the Original International Phenomenon. Now, this thunderous celebration of joyful music, song and dance that has thrilled over 18 million people around the world returns to the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville, February 15-20 for eight performances only.
Composed by Bill Whelan, produced by Moya Doherty, and directed by John McColgan, RIVERDANCE  features an international company of brilliant performers who have touched the hearts of millions around the world.  “An explosion of sight and sound that simply takes your breath away,” cheers the Chicago Tribune. “A family evening unlike anything else!” raves The London Times. Rediscover the original! Whether it’s your first time or your fifth, there is no better time to share the magic of Riverdance with your family.
“Although the traditional Irish dancing in RIVERDANCE is spectacular, the show offers so much more,” said Brent Hyams, TPAC’s Director of Marketing.  “Other dance styles featured in the show include African American tap, Spanish flamenco and Russian folk, not to mention the incredible music.  With four singers and six musicians, including a percussionist who plays 25 different instruments, this is a culturally and artistically diverse show with something to satisfy people of all ages.  RIVERDANCE is a Nashville favorite–anyone who missed it five years ago won’t want to miss it this time around.”
RIVERDANCE is a celebration of Irish music, song and dance, which focuses on the evolution of Irish dance, as well as its similarities with, and influences on, other cultures.  Mr. Whelan won the 1997 Grammy Award for “Best Musical Show Album” for his original music and lyrics for RIVERDANCE.  This extraordinarily unique show featuring an international company that has taken the world by storm, now returns to Nashville!
RIVERDANCE had its world premiere at the Point Theatre, Dublin, in February 1995, where it opened to unanimous critical acclaim.  There are presently two productions of RIVERDANCE touring the world. To date, over 18 million people worldwide have seen RIVERDANCE, in addition to some 9 million people who have purchased the video versions of the show.  RIVERDANCE–The Album, on Celtic Heartbeat/Universal Records, has sold more than two million CDs worldwide and is certified Platinum in the United States.
