Focusing on the spiritual dimension of women, Revell authors Linda Clare and Kristen Johnson Ingram will release their first book together entitled, Revealed: Spiritual Reality in a Makeover World. Published by Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, the book releases August 1, 2005.
“This book is your guide to a spiritual makeover, but not in an atmosphere of self-indulgence or faux chic. God’s idea of transformation targets you as a whole person, in a setting more like a quiet retreat than a noisy salon,” says Linda Clare in Revealed.
Revealed is a unique collection of personal essays, poems, and biblical stories that shows women how to get beyond a superficial makeover mentality and learn to live more like Jesus through a closer relationship with God.
“This is such a timely book,” says Revell editor Jeanette Thomason, “because it addresses popular culture’s obsession with makeovers of the body, the face, home, and even personality makeovers. There’s not a television station that doesn’t carry some sort of reality or makeover show each week, and the ratings are off the charts. There’s something in us that loves to see transformation, the broken made new. This book helps reveal God’s work and process of renewal in us in every moment of every day.”
Revealed serves as a guide through a metaphorical “retreat” with the use of reflective stories from the lives of the authors and by drawing from the wisdom, humor, and advice of a multigenerational think tank of Christian women, including well-known writers and poets such as Melody Carlson, Luci Shaw, Marlee LeDai, Heather Harpham Kopp, and more. With this insightful and engaging book, readers are invited to join in the conversation of what it really means to be a woman of God.
As Linda and Kristen challenge readers to experience the freedom of transformation and to keep the renewal process active and growing, they add, “We hope you’ll emerge a new you—both to others and yourself. As the makeover shows, and the apostle Paul proclaimed, the ‘big reveal’ celebrates putting on the new self.”
In addition to Revealed, Linda Clare is the author of three nonfiction books, including her most recent book, Lost Boys and the Moms Who Love Them, which she co-wrote with Melody Carlson and Heather Harpham Kopp. Married and the mother of four, Linda writes and lives in Eugene, Oregon, with her husband, Brad. She is currently writing a memoir about her childhood experiences as a polio survivor in the 1960s Shriner’s hospitals.
Revealed is the twentieth book for multiple-award-winning author Kristen Johnson Ingram, who writes both fiction and nonfiction and is a frequent contributor to Weavings. A wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she also works as a national writing coach, editorial consultant, and retreat leader from her home in Springfield, Oregon, and is a licensed lay preacher in the Episcopal Church.
