Rest Vs. Religion

“Our Adversary majors in three things: noise, hurry and crowds. If he can
keep us engaged in “muchness” and “manyness,” he will rest satisfied.”
–Richard J. Foster
To Foster’s quote I might add: “And we won’t rest at all.”
Most of us are indeed addicted to noise, hurry and crowds. Even in our church
life we are over-stimulated, nonstop exhausted, and deathly afraid of
solitude and silence. Drowning in the din of religious activities we have
turned Sunday into anything but a “day of rest.” Is it any wonder that so
many of us have lost track of the still, small voice of God?
Jesus came to change that.
