Remembering Men of God on Father’s Day

Men of God who are Fathers were remembered from near on Father’s Day

Men of God who are Fathers were remembered from near and far as Sheilah Belle and the rest of The Gospel Times newspaper crew pulled together a day many will long remember. More than 700 people showed up at Fifth Baptist Church in Richmond, VA for a special concert just for the men. Special guests included David “Pop” Winans, Daniel Winans, William Becton, Greg Roberts and Soulful Celebration, the Sterling Stars, Evidence and many others. Juan Maurry with EURWEB.com and Veryl Howard of Faith Management also stopped by.

More than two-hundred giveaways were handed out to the men…from free tickets to Six Flags America and to Movie tickets to see “The Incrediable Hulk.”

Belle said, “This is our eleveth year holding this event and many who come say, “There is no other place they would rather be because of various reason. Some have lost their fathers and others say this is where they bring their fathers. So I guess you could say, this event has a multipurpose.”

Belle also handed out one award this year to Minister Stanely R. Jordon, who was recently taken off the air, despite his number one rated Sunday morning show. Many applauded as he received this award, while Jordon was humbled by being remembered.

Leaving the crowd with memorable performances were The Sterling Stars, one of the oldest, yet smoothest quartet groups in Richmond. These seventy year old boys brought the crowd to their feet. Daniel Winans was so moved by them, he dedicated a song to them while Pop Winans moved the crowd to a couple of traditional tunes.

Greg Roberts and Soulful Celebration also brought some excitement to the air as they showed off their talents with an array of songs and song styles, along with hitting every note on key.

The surprise for the evening though was William Becton. While we all know he is talented, Becton seriously put it down on the people. He performed a twenty-five minute medley of songs that rocked the house, beginning with Be Encouraged. Nearly everyone in the church stood to their feet and stayed there during his entire performance. He truly rocked the house from the time he took the mic until he and his background singers, Greg Roberts and Soulful Celebration took their seats. Becton was trully off the heezy!
