“Inspirational Journey,” the first Christian recording from multi-platinum country artist Randy Travis,
will be released by Atlantic Records Christian Music Division to the CBA market and by Warner Bros. to the general
market. The highly anticipated project will be available at Christian retail and in mainstream outlets October 24.
Produced by Kyle Lehning, Travis co-wrote three songs on the album: “The Carpenter,” which includes vocal contributions
from Waylon Jennings and Jessie Colter, “Walk With Me,” and “I Am Going.” Other song selections include “Baptism,”
“Drive Another Nail,” and “Don’t Ever Sell Your Saddle,” featuring Marty Stuart on mandolin.
“I am very pleased with ‘Inspirational Journey’ and hope the album will touch people in a personal way,” said Travis. “I
was baptized several years ago; at that time I began to think about the possibility of recording a Gospel album. We spent
four years looking for the kind of material we really believed in.”
“In making this inspirational album, I approached it in the same way I would a country record,” continued Travis. “I like to
have diversity both musically and lyrically. I hope people will enjoy hearing these songs, because I do think there is some
very good writing here, and I think Kyle did a great job with the production.”
“It’s a great joy to be representing Randy on this album,” said Barry Landis, vice president/general manager, Atlantic
Records Christian Music Division. “He means
what he is saying on these songs and I find it rare that an artist of his stature would take the time out of his busy career to
make this recording. I think the industry feels very honored by that.”
Travis has sold more than 20 million albums since bringing back a classic sound to country music with his
quadruple-platinum 1986 debut, “Storms of Life.” He has garnered three Grammy Awards, five Country Music
Association Awards, eight Academy of Country Music Awards and 10 American Music Awards, and recorded such
signature songs as “Forever and Ever Amen,” “On The Other Hand” and “He Walked on Water,” among many others.
In addition to his continued musical success, Travis is also a full-time actor, appearing in such major motion pictures as
“The Rainmaker” as well as making guest appearances on several television shows, including “Touched By An Angel.”
Next spring, Travis will co-star with Dylan McDermott and James Van Der Beek in the Miramax/Dimension feature film,
“Texas Rangers.”
“Inspirational Journey” also enlists the talents of many of the music industry’s top instrumentalists, including Brent Mason,
Billy Joe Walker, Jr., Terry McMillan, Jerry Douglas, Steve Gibson, Glenn Worf and Sonny Garrish.
Travis recently packed some 600 people into a Dallas bookstore to celebrate the release of the project as well as performing in concert there.
“Inspirational Journey” will be distributed by Chordant Distribution to Christian retail and by WEA to mainstream outlets.
